I found out just over a week ago that I was officially invited to join the Peace Corps. Exactly a week ago, I received my invitation letter in the mail saying I was invited to go to Namibia to be a math teacher. I knew about the math teaching part, and I knew I was nominated for Africa - but where is Namibia? That was the first question I needed to answer. So of course I googled it immediately and found that it's on the Southwest coast of Africa bordered by Angola, Botswana and South Africa. I still needed more information.
I read a lot the first night and continued to read through out the week. Gathering all the information I could would be the only way to help make my decision. It was a difficult decision because it means that I have to pack away my life here, leave friends and family, and take a huge leap of faith. But I knew that this was the path I needed to take right now. I'm still scared and sad, but excited too. So my journey begins. Right now, it involves a lot of reading and filling out paperwork for the Peace Corps, packing, putting all my affairs in order.
My goal is to continue this blog to keep everyone updated on my life for the next 27 months. I hope that it helps people stay in touch and understand what I'm experiencing. I also hope that it helps me let go - not worry about what others might think as they read, but put out there how I feel and just be me.
